Why Paramedics Deserve a National Monument — Part 2

Paramedics are consistently ranked among the most trusted professionals in Canada—alongside nurses and firefighters.

We work hard to save lives in situations where every second can matter.

We provide emergency-room-level care in homes, on highways and in the back of an ambulance moving through traffic under emergency conditions.

We miss birthdays, holidays and important family events to serve our communities.

A sit-down meal is rare—and even when we get one, we must be ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

Getting off work on time often feels like a suggestion. Forced overtime can mean continuing to work even when we are exhausted, hungry or have family commitments waiting for us.

Many paramedics struggle to have vacation requests approved because keeping ambulances in service must come first.

Burnout is real.

Mental-health injuries are real.

The risks we face on every shift are real.

Paramedics dedicate their careers—and sometimes their lives—to helping Canadians during their worst moments.

Is a national monument recognizing that service and sacrifice really too much to ask?

Please write to your elected officials in Ottawa and ask them to support a National Paramedic Monument.
